The Birthday Ritual

As the holidays roll around, I have to somehow take a moment to observe what my mama gave to me - LIFE!! I guess you can say, I take the organized approach to celebrating :)

I was hit with the extreme misfortune of having a Birthday right before Christmas, however, I do not let anyone forget it :) Instead of sliding into the Christmas hustle and bustle, you can find me running through the streets shouting "Today is my birthday... did you know this is my birthday?" No - not really... but I must do what I can to gain recognition of my special day.

I try to make my birthday special by spending the morning doing what I call my “Spa Ritual”. Running a luxurious bubble bath complete with candles, my favorite music and a class of champagne. I try to break out all of those masks and treatments that I haven’t made time for, and just enjoy pampering myself at home.

I used to keep a daily journal, noting any significant events as they occurred. But as the years go on, I have found a simple letter written out on this day, noting the important things is a much simpler process. Many of my friends have adopted this into their birthday routines as well, so I thought it would be fun to share one of my birthday rituals with you.

This little ritual includes a letter to myself reflecting on the year as it was, reminding myself of all the things I have to be grateful for & those events that shaped my year. I write out a few goals I would like to accomplish within the year ahead & read the letter I wrote to myself last year.

It is kind of a testament to our New Year’s Resolutions without the embarrassment or shame of not fulfilling those goals. This is a loving act that I can give to myself as a gift & enjoy seeing the true progress I have made through 364 days of the year.

So with that being said, I would love to know what you do for yourself on your Birthday.  Do you find a way to treat yourself, or make a commitment to better the next year of your life?

Have a happy and safe Holiday Season!!

A New Year, A New You...

I have decided to begin a new blog in order to share with you the value of your time and organizational skills. I draw from personal experience, helpful resources in keeping my life in balance and I hope to inspire and delight you in new ways of looking at your daily tasks and goals.

Goal-setting is a great way to achieve balance and happiness in one's world. Balance can be achieved with careful plotting and motivation. I have prepared several blogs to tempt you with list-making, planning, organizing and striving for a more simplistic way of life...  a way to ReneW...

How many times has the New Year rolled around, and you tell yourself, "This year I am going to get organized" ? Do you find that you crave a more simplistic lifestyle, but after cleaning a few areas of your home the "stuff" gets the best of you?

Well, here is a little secret that many people do not follow through with... Successful people make regular To Do lists every day, to stay on task and achieve their goals. They look at their list several times a day to ensure they are staying on task, and they constantly update it to fit their needs. Just by keeping a simple lined notebook with you during your day, you can achieve success too. You will get a lot more of those daunting tasks checked off your list in a shorter amount of time if you refer to it often.

Try This: Open up to a new sheet of paper and simply title it with today's day of the week - TUESDAY. Make a list of all the activities you need to get done today...
  1. Go over Calendar
  2. Make breakfast
  3. Walk the dog
  4. Workout
  5. Type up that proposal
  6. Clean out refrigerator
... You get the picture. Now, look at your list and identify the major task that will take up most of your time today, or that will make you want to procrastinate. Is it #5? If you need to type a proposal, but have been putting it off, then look at it in simpler terms. Think of three small steps that you can take to get you closer to reaching that goal.

This may be to pull out your materials for reference, read something inspirational or factual, even reminding yourself to shut off outside noises or let your colleagues know you are unavailable for the next hour.
If you don't make it through your list, or find certain tasks that you may be able to do tomorrow, create a new page titled WEDNESDAY, and transfer those tasks to the next day. I usually mark next to these tasks with a < .

Don't worry if you can't make it through your list. Life happens... but you will find that being prepared for what's to come tomorrow, makes for a much better today! If you can make these lists for yourself, you are going to find that you are not only more organized with your work, but you are also creating more clarity and balance in your overall life.

Thanks for reading, and since this is the first Blog in a series of my helpful tips, I would love to get your feedback...  is this something that is helpful to you?  What kind of tips and information would you like to see more of?  And finally, What is your New Year Resolution routine, and how do you keep yourself accountable?
