Coming into the New Year with a new business in tow, my blogging skills had to be sharpened and I was in luck! I discovered a whole new world that I had no idea existed until a few weeks ago. After some research, I got lost in time – little did I know there was life out there in the blogosphere.
The blogging world has become a unique tapestry of women woven together of spectacular talent from across the globe. In the past few years, this little slice of the web has become a sisterhood of support as we learn and grow into the women we have always wanted to be.
For a moment, we can escape the mundane to show the world our creative sides. We dream, we laugh, we cry. We share pictures of our children, of our pets… we drink wine…
It is so important for us to carve our own niche, full of personality and experience so that we can become experts in our fields. As I discover my own path through this amazing crowd of wit and talent, I learn as I teach. In searching for one answer, I almost always gather up ten equally wonderful answers in the process. I am consumed.
I can’t tell you how many ladies I have stumbled upon who have blown me away in the diversity of their writing. Each one I see teaches me a little more about myself, and how I would like to express my own talents through what I share. And each friendship made throughout the process teaches me how important it is for us as women to work together. Someone once wrote, “Fragrance clings to the hand that gives the rose”, which is a reminder of just how sweet it is to share our ideas and knowledge with one another.
As I delve deeper into my weekly mission, it’s apparent that I need to structure my time. My blog is a labor of love, but I can clearly see that I am becoming like a kid obsessed with recess. Since I consult people on time management in my profession, it’s important for me not to get swallowed up by the very thing I counsel.
I soon devised a plan that helped me structure my days ahead. If you find your hours quickly escaping as it has me, my best advice to you is to construct a schedule for the time you are willing to spend, so that you don’t get lost in the details. I recommend picking two or three days out of the week to posting, responding and commenting. Setting a timer has helped me to have limits which apparently I needed more than I knew. Learn how to pre-schedule your posts, and write them two at a time so that it frees you up to do other things during the day, which proves there can be balance in life and blogging after all.
If you are a blogger, I encourage you to check out both of these networks to gain some wonderful knowledge and many new friends. If you are new to the Lady Blogger's Society, please let them know that I sent you! You will be amazed how much you will take away from being a part of these networks.
Happy Spring everyone! I am sure you join me in welcoming wild flowers and sunshine :)

11 What do you think?:
Ladybloggers and SITS are such great resources! After all it's how we met!
This post is almost too coincidental. Just yesterday, I decided to make a list of all the things I wanted to do, and gave myself an hour to do each, using the kitchen timer. I wondered if it may be a little too extereme an regime, but as you are an expert in that field, reading your post convince me it's something worth following through with.
As I'm on the hunt for a new job that seems endless, I decided to take on some hobbies to fill my spare time. I found a list of new things that I like to do, but I am still trying to find the balance, so that I can incorporate them all. Otherwise, I just start working on several things, but never finish a single one.
Thanks for this wonderful post. I will familiar with SITS, but I'm going to check out Lady's Blogger Society!
Thank you for the great post. I will check out the sites you've mentioned. I certainly need to set some boundaries and develop some balance in blogging. I can't believe how I can sit down and 2 hours later I'm still here at the computer then I wonder why I can't get anything done. But I do love all that I've discovered and the friendships I've made and it's hard to separate from it. Have a great day!
This is totally my downfall. I have a hard time doing 2 posts at a time because my posts usually require photos, etc and take so long. I tend to really dive into things - "go big or go home" attitude. But because of this the blog at times becomes tiresome...I am getting better at walking away and taking a break...but I do love it too! I try to email back or comment back on everyone who comments on my blog and that,I am finding takes a ton of time. Time management (other than with my clients) is torture for me.
Holly
Thanks for the info on the Lady Blogger Society. I haven't heard of that one before.
I do get sucked in sometimes and can't believe how fast time flies when I'm reading blogs I enjoy or hopping around the internet. This is so funny because I love making things by hand (which is what I usually blog about) but realized all this time on the computer takes away from my "hands on" time! I just posted today about some project I finished when I finally got away from the computer. Balance is so important but so hard too sometimes.
great sites, I love the networking that they offer. Good luck with your new youtube venture as well!
Thanks for the additional networking site Renee. For a new blogger like me, I need all the networking I can get. Thanks also for ideas on how to manage the time gulper which is blogging. Between posting, trying to discover new sites and fiddling with the format of my page, I find hours have gone by - will definitely try the timer! Happy Spring to you too - the sun is finally shining
So true Rachel - glad we had that opportunity to connect!
That is too funny Shopping Girl! Like you, I get easily distracted by the internet, so the timer is the only thing that keeps me focused.
Sewn With Grace - Isn't it amazing how time flies when we're doing what we love? It happens to me too!
Holly - I sometimes struggle to get out more than one post at a time, but I have learned to do it anyway & sometimes don't even post them. I later go back & perfect them because at least the bones of the blog are there - you know what I mean?
Debbie - It's hard to balance two enjoyable activities like crafting/working and blogging/writing. That is what I face - I organize & I write. A constant struggle...
Thank you Housewife :) I am looking forward to adding some videos to my YouTube!
Muse - They really are fantastic ways to meet new people whom you never may have the chance in the "real world". I know what you mean by being overwhelmed with the new blogging world. Believe me, it gets easier. Sometimes you just have to walk away from it & do your commenting at a later time.
Speaking of that - I apologize for not being able to blog hop lately. A family emergency has come up here & our lives have been thrown a little out of whack! Happy Spring to you all as well :)
Great post. I am also a member of SITS and Lady Bloggers. Have a great day!
Nice blog, I am a member of both Lady and SITs. In fact I am coming from Lady Bloggers.
I'm going to check that out. Thanks!
Stopping by from SITS to say hello.
Have a great day!
Harriet
