Awesome Note

Have you ever considered one of those organizing apps, but didn't know if it was worth the time or investment?  I have downloaded numerous free apps - and there are so many good free apps out there.  But when it came down to it, I was left feeling as if it was too much work, or it could be done better with the basic features that came with my smart phone.

The most frequently used productivity apps for me are the Calendar, Clock, Voice Memos, Notes and Google.  These are all great, and when set up to work together, they can give you countless reminders and information at your fingertips.

However, I have found a pretty great app called Awesome Note that I am confident will replace everything else, including my Day Runner.  This is especially difficult for me, because I am still in love with keeping a pen and calendar with me but when I embrace this system, I will be carrying a much lighter load.

I'm going to let you in on some of my own To Do lists and schedules which I use with this app.  Here is the main screen where I keep my most important life information - My Today and To Do Soon files are my main objective throughout the day & I keep only the most important deadlines (hence the skull) and those which I can do throughout the week.

My meal plans, house needs and shopping lists are right there - stairing me in the face, and ready to be added to when I need them.

I keep notes for my businesses - schedules, appointments, weekly routines...  they can easily be assigned a due-date, alarm (if I want it), and I can personalize each subject with colored folders and icons (how do you like the one for my Boutique?)  :)

This is a simple list of meals I prepare throughout the week when I don't have time to be creative.  We have thought of 7 different meals that we can rotate every week & I have an alert set the day before to remind me of what's for dinner tomorrow night (in case I need to thaw anything or set up the slow cooker, etc.)

What do you think?  Do you have an all-in-one life planner on your phone?  Are apps like this worth the $4.99 fee?  Do you prefer a paper schedule?  If you have a program like this one on your smart phone, do you use it regularly?

Sundays In My City - Cold Springs Trail

Unknown MamiWe enjoyed a long hike up the Cold Springs Trail in Montecito.  These photos don't do it justice...  If you live in the area and have never been, it's defenately worth the 4.5 mile trip up!  It rained half way up this time, so we turned around, but the views are breath-taking at every turn.

I tried to get a good shot of Santa Barbara Beach waaay down there but without my camera (she met an untimely death), the iPhone is all I have for you right now.  The trails were steep and windy, but this was a shot of T. and Roxy in the wider section on the way down.

I showed you mine, now show me yours!  :)  Sundays In My City is hosted by Unknown Mami - click on the logo at the top to see more!

Day Planning Made Easy

Every once in a while, I love to feature another blogger on Renew Your Space who inspires me in Life Balance or Time Management.  I have known Crystal Escobar for a while now through blogging, and when I saw her new home-made day planners, I just had to show her off!

I have always raved about how helpful laminated pages can be when scheduling everyday tasks. She took this to a whole new level with her meal planning and house projects.

Crystal shares many of my organizing passions, from keeping To Do lists, to healthy living and I am so pleased to have her post here today!

Welcome Crystal:

My name is Crystal, I'm a wife of 6 years and a mother of two beautiful children, one boy, one girl. I started this blog in November 09. I'm really just a Wannabe... Balanced Mom.

I'm very passionate about having BALANCE, and I know this is probably something we will strive to master our entire lives. We all would like to be able to set aside time for family and friends, spiritual, and personal growth, and of course physical and mental health. The key, I think, is being organized and learning to balance our lives well.

I LOVE being organized, having schedules and "to do" lists. Ever since I can remember I've had this "passion" for it. I like to say, "passion", and not "obsession":). I believe being organized and finding balance are really the key factors to fulfilling all our goals and dreams in life.

There's nothing like the feeling of accomplishment!

I created Wanna Be Balanced Mom to log my personal progression in finding balance, and to share my own life experiences. When I ponder topics I'd like to write about, I ask myself, " does this have anything to do with BALANCE"? And I think, SURE IT DOES! I like to cover a wide range of topics, beauty, parenting, weight loss, lists and schedules, making healthy meals, budgeting, and of course how I TRY to balance it all. Isn't that what it's all about?

Here is a post I did when I found myself completely OFF balance.

After about a year of blogging about balance I came up with a very handy tool. I originally created it for my own personal use, but then had the idea to mass produce them to make them available for other wannabe balanced moms.

It's a handmade specialty day planner, that is a must have organizational tool when trying to balance your life as a mom.

I covered them in a variety of different designs of fabric (Click HERE to see more).  It includes essential to do lists and planning tools for keeping your house organized, making healthy meals, and spending quality time with your family. Comes complete with 3 months of meal plans and laminated grocery list organized by category making meals and grocery shopping less stressful. It also includes tabs, pockets to store receipts or notes, and two pen holders. You'll get two complimentary markers, one permanent sharpie, and one wet erase to use on the laminated pages.

So far customers have raved about these new planners. It's the perfect tool for the busy mom trying to balance it all.

You will also get 52 weekly overviews, a laminated house projects list, a laminated daily routine schedule. You can buy a list of activities to do with your kids for $6 or each additional month of meals for $8.

Watch this video for details on how to use it!

Thank you Crystal - I just love your insights on becoming a balanced mom!  Your videos are always fun and helpful.  You can see more of Crystal's creativity in her blog Wanna Be Balanced Mom.

Constructing an Organized To Do List

We all know how to write up a To Do list, but how we construct it makes the big difference in getting things done, or passing them off to tomorrow.

Here is my fail-proof way of getting yesterday's items checked off for good, so that I can focus on today:

Identify a Time and a Place
I write up my list during the last half-hour of work.  This is the time I reserve for myself, to reflect on my day and carefully plan for what I need to be done tomorrow.

Delegate Your Time
Write down everything that comes to mind which needs to be done, and then delegate which items can be put off next week and next quarter.  When I look three or four months ahead, I can free up my current time by pre-scheduling some chores in the future.

Set Recurrances in Stone
There are just some To Do's that are going to be daily and weekly occurances.  These, I like to set in stone on my calendar so that I remember to get them done every week.  Sometimes assigning a day of the week to certain household chores gets them marked off on time.  For example;  Menu Plan, Vacuum, Laundry, Grocery Shop...

Verify Your Progress
Look at your list throughout the day to make sure you are staying on track.  It's easy to procrastinate and get side-tracked when there are pending things on your list.  Make a commitment to yourself to get today's list completed and verify your progress throughout the day.

Utilize Your Tools
Sometimes a pen-to-paper approach is not your thing.  You can simply use your computer's Outlook program to schedule in reminders if you are at your desk all day.  Or keep your list on your phone by using a free app or the simple notepad option.

Would you like to free up your time for more important things, like spending time with your family? Do you have trouble managing your paper clutter? How would you feel if somebody could take a weight off your shoulder with a little advice?
